We gave our boys the choice Disney or Legoland? Florida was definitely our destination for spring break, we had beach plans. We decided giving them a choice would take us off the hook for one of them for at least a year or so. We had three days so it was up to them what they thought would be the best thing to do for our family.
Legoland it was! I was pretty sure they were going to pick Legoland because they are Lego freaks! We listened to everyone on the Legoland blogs and arrived at the park an hour before opening. The Lego magazine has tickets for free kids free admission, of course we had enough Lego Magazines to get an entire town in free. Only paying for two adult admission tickets made this day very reasonable.
We had read on a blog, that if you get to Legoland an hour before opening and get in line right in the front, that there is a chance you could be chosen to “Flip the Switch” to turn on the park! I told my boys if the staff asked for volunteers to shot up their hands. And they actually listened to me!!!! They put up their hands and were asked to “Flip the Switch!” How exciting!
There was so much for us to see at Legoland, we couldn’t get enough. There are 150-acres in this amusement park and over 50 rides, all focused on Legos. We really liked MINILAND USA where there are over 32 million Lego bricks set up in popular scenes. Our favorites were the pirates and Star Wars!! (See our post on Hollywood Studios if you are a Star Wars fan too!)
A fun thing the boys did was trading Lego minifigures with staff. If you have been to Disney you may be familiar with the pin exchange with staff, this is the same process it is just with Lego minifigures. At Minifigure Market you can build and purchase your own Lego Minifigure to trade or keep. Just to give you a glimpse of how crazy the minifigure craze is…here are a few pictures from inside the hotel. This is behind the check-in desk!
There are a ton of rides, to have fun on! There are rides for every age from toddlers to mid-teens. Our boys were eight and nine when we went, which I thought was the perfect age. Two of their favorite rides were the Aquazone Wave Racers and the Ford Driving School.
There are so many rides and absolutely fun things to do at Legoland, you will never be bored and your day will be full of experiences.
The last thing we did at Legoland was go to the Legoland Water Park. Just like you have read in our Walt Disney World posts, we LOVE the water parks!! We are not easy to impress but Lego did just that…impressed us. Not only do they have the standard water park thrills like a wave pool, and rides….but they also have Build-A-Raft river where you can use huge Lego pieces to build a raft while swimming or going on the lazy river in a tube. Our boys loved the island in the wave pool to play at with the large Legos.
The Build-A-Boat attraction, which is right next to the pool, was the highlight of the day! Over and over the boys would build a boat, race the boat, change the boat, race the boat and repeat. They loved this and worked with other kids too.
The Legoland hotel is an experience in itself. We did not stay at the hotel but they welcome visitors. It was fun to look around, build the lobby column, take in a fun show and gaze at the minifigure check-in wall.
We loved Legoland and I am so glad they picked Legoland over Disney (we did go to Disney two years later.) Our entire family found the day so fun and there was something new to discover in each different area. We hope you take your family and enjoy it too. Please share with us in the comments your favorite Lego memory.
