Washington Island, Wisconsin

We have some wonderful friends who love adventure, The Kellermans, and we can’t wait for you to meet them and explore the beautiful island they call home.  They moved to a secluded island in Lake Michigan only about three hours from our home. Ok, ok, maybe it’s not completely secluded. In the summer time there is a ferry that carries tourists over to the little island to slow down and enjoy the beaches.

We love to visit the island over the fourth of July weekend or any summer weekend.  We bike, hike, swim, and spend a lot of time doing nothing. Absolutely one of my favorite vacation spots.

There is not a shortage of things to do on this beautiful island.  Our boys love to fish, either from a pier or a boat. On this visit they went deep fishing for Lake Salmon, yum!  Chartering a boat is super easy and the islanders know all the best fishing spots, like this one off the Western side of Rock Island, look at those beautiful cliffs. While they were out in the lake, anyway, they did some fun tubing!

Other island activities included the nature center, hiking and the most adorable and unique shops.  Like, the Island Lavender Farm!  I found the most unique and beautiful gifts for everyone!  It was a great backdrop for pictures of all the kids too! There is so much to explore at the farm which shares a location with the Historical Island Dairy.

We were on the island during their infamous Fourth of July Celebration, it was small town goodness from beginning to end.  The kids participated in a bike parade, where they decorated their bikes and themselves then rode down main street to the fireworks.  We also made some fun t-shirts earlier in the day. All of the adults sat and watched the short parade, then followed along to the fireworks.

We can’t wait to go back to Washington Island, yet again, for an amazing and relaxing weekend.
